Description
This ornament is designed as homage to the traditional Burmese toy, the “Pyit Taing Htaung.” The Pyit Taing Htaung is a traditional rolling doll that rights itself whenever it is tossed.
The name “Pyit Taing Htaung” means, “when it’s thrown or falls, it comes back up.”
Not only is this a cute traditional toy, it’s also become a slogan and a symbol of cultural resilience and resistance that Myanmar people proudly share. The Pyit Taing Htaung is a symbol of hope: the people will rise above their oppressors.
Each ornament was made by Myanmar friends who were displaced by the military coup. Thank you for supporting our collective in the struggle to overcome dictatorship.
Specs: Quilled paper on wood, with a raffia hanging loop. Measures 3 inches in diameter.
