Sarong (Htamein) Bunting made from Myanmar fabrics
Made in MaeSot using batik fabrics. These bunting strings contain 11 triangles of fabric. They measure just under 2 meters long.
Description
These bunting strings were designed in honor of women in Myanmar who have taken great risks to protest the violence of the military dictatorship.
In early 2021 anti-coup protests, Myanmar women raised their longyi (sarongs) and used them as barricades against crackdowns from the military troops. Traditional belief is that women’s lower garments are unclean and can diminish the strength of men. Women across Myanmar raised their sarongs in defiance of this patriarchal norm.

These fabric bunting strings are not only beautiful decor, they symbolize the courage of Myanmar protesters, particularly women.
These were made in MaeSot by one of the Myanmar exiles from our collective. Your purchase supports her livelihood and our monthly donations to women-led orgs in Myanmar/Burma.
