These Pyit Taing Htaung were crocheted by a teacher in Myanmar’s civil disobedience movement. When you shop from us, you’re supporting her income! They come as a set of two, and measure 2.5 inches in diameter.
What is Pyit Taing Htaung?
This ornament is designed as homage to the traditional Burmese toy, the “Pyit Taing Htaung.” The Pyit Taing Htaung is a traditional rolling doll that rights itself whenever it is tossed.
The name “Pyit Taing Htaung” means, “when it’s thrown or falls, it comes back up.”
Not only is this a cute traditional toy, it’s also become a slogan and a symbol of cultural resilience and resistance that Myanmar people proudly share. The Pyit Taing Htaung is a symbol of hope: the people will rise above their oppressors.
